Working with Faith and Spirituality

I am a practising Christian and have a particular interest in supporting people whose faith or spiritual experiences are an important part of their story. Some clients wish to integrate their Christian faith into therapy, while others are working through difficult or painful experiences of church, spirituality, or spiritual abuse. My approach is always led by you — your beliefs will be respected, and faith can be included in the work where this is helpful and desired.

Therapy that can include spirituality

Therapy that can include your faith

Many people want professional psychological therapy that feels safe alongside their Christian faith. Others come to therapy because of difficult experiences within church or spiritual settings.

As a Clinical Psychologist and a Christian, I offer a space where both psychology and faith can be held thoughtfully and respectfully.

This might include:

  • exploring how faith supports resilience and coping
  • working through doubt, guilt, or spiritual struggles
  • healing from church hurt or spiritual abuse
  • navigating life transitions, loss, or illness alongside faith
  • ensuring therapy aligns with your personal beliefs and values

Faith is never assumed or imposed. Some clients choose to bring it into therapy; others prefer not to. You are always in control of what feels helpful and relevant.

Working with Christian clients and spiritual experiences

A significant part of my work involves supporting people whose Christian faith, spirituality, or church experiences are central to their lives. For some clients, faith is a source of strength and comfort that they would like to integrate into therapy. For others, past experiences of church or spiritual environments have been confusing, painful, or traumatic, and they are seeking a safe place to process this.

Because I am both a Clinical Psychologist and a Christian, I understand the importance of offering therapy that is:

  • psychologically robust and evidence-based
  • ethically grounded and professionally boundaried
  • respectful of faith, doubt, and spiritual questions
  • sensitive to the complexities of church culture and community

Therapy is not pastoral care or spiritual direction, but it can sit alongside these supports and work in harmony with them when appropriate.Whether you have a strong faith, mixed feelings, or no longer identify as Christian, you will be met with warmth, curiosity, and respect.

I have also written a book about my experiences of Abuse, Faith and Restoration called 'Rise' - available on Amazon:
